IN THE WORDS OF JESUS–Part 187

YES, HE is Talking to YOU! (continued)

Love is the Fulfilling of the Law

HAPPY NEW YEAR

So we begin today the NEW YEAR, 2012. In the steady march of time we can see the changes wrought by the working of the forces of evolution affecting people around the world. Conflicts resolved, new conflicts beginning, changes in the social fabric enhanced by instant communications, groups and nations struggling for freedom from authoritarian regimes and the continuation of the great chess match of nation against nation that is only assuaged by the yet greater understanding of the need for mutual cooperation. This last idea is the Spirit of Brotherhood in the world today which is ever growing and bringing mankind to an ever greater sense of Oneness. We may not see it working but if we look at the last few years, or the last five or the last ten, surely we can see the progressive changes that have changed the way men live and react to each other. There is a GREAT PLAN of GOD which in its slow and methodic way is sweeping through humanity and bringing with it the required changes by the hands of the men in incarnation at any given time. As time moves on more and more Souls come into a position to influence their incarnate conscious personalities and this influence of the the Soul, the Christ Within, is always Good. As more and more men come into the world that are able to sense in some way the purpose of the the Plan and have some inkling as to their part to play in whatever their field of expertise, more and more strides will be taken by the race as a whole toward harmony and peace. This sense of purpose need not be in a religious field or be in any way spiritual, it can be in business, in politics or in any human endeavor and it will bring into play some revelation as will results in an innovation or an invention or a new and a better way to see or to do.

This has ever been the way of human progress and looking back we can see, in the personalities that have left their mark, the working out of their Soul’s purpose in the world of events. Of course there is the converse of this as well and there are Souls that come into incarnation and who produce personalities that are so powerful and so entrenched in worldly ways that they shut out the Light of the Soul and work out their power to their selfish ends in the world of form. We must ever remember that when we come into incarnation and arrive at an adult state of mind, that we are generally oblivious to the True Life of the Soul except as we may sense the presence of the Good, the Beautiful and the True and the promptings of our conscience to good. The great illusion is that we believe that we are this body and this consciousness and that this is the life that matters. This perspective changes for some as they become aware of the spiritual part of Life and begin to allow some of the higher values to precipitate down into everyday conscious behavior and thereby are able to change the focus of their lives. For others there may be the continual ‘ignoring’ of the higher values and for yet others there may be the outright repudiation of these values and a total focus on Life as the personality in form. We should remember here that there is always that infinite range of possible variations of these things producing all types of men from the all giving Saint to the most despicable tyrant.

So we enter another year and the change here is really but the advance of another day and in the slow and methodic march of time and events the Plan of God comes closer and closer to fruition. In every new day and in every New Year, we have new opportunity to contribute to the success of the Great Plan; our contribution is simple and can take the form of whatever it is that our place in the scheme of things allows. The Master put this into an all-encompassing saying for us; wherever we are, whatever we are, we can do this for our God, our Souls and the world of men. He tells us: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). This is a simple and a universal message to us all. Whatever the degree of the Light of the Soul which may be available to any man at any given time, it is this that should be made to shine to the world. The more that we have, the more we should give and the more that we have and give, the more we will receive. This is a method par excellence of ensuring the continual gain of spiritual Light in ones conscious Life: “Let your light so shine before men“.

There are spiritual rules regarding having and giving that give us this understanding which are hidden in the many parables of the Master. From the Parable of the Faithful Servant, which we discussed in In the Words of Jesus part 103, we have this saying: “….for unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required” (Luke 12:48) and we should of course see this as a statement of fact. This should also enhance the idea above regarding the simple message of the Master; when He says “Let your light so shine before men“, we should see that He means all of the Light that we have. This is the only measure; that we give what it is that we have. Jesus other statements in regard to having and giving play here as well. Speaking in regard to that spiritual Light, we should see in these a similar idea that flows from having and giving: “For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him” (Matthew 13:12). We should resist any of the modern constructions of this saying that imply that He is speaking of material things. The Master here is speaking specifically about the understanding of a parable and the mysteries of the Kingdom. We can then interpret this as to say, for our context, that we have a degree of Light and based on that degree that we have, we give. Further, that we have Light and that our use of it brings us into more Light, Light in abundance.

We need to see in this the interaction between the personality of  man and his Soul. The Light is ever present in and from the Soul and it is when we take this Light into our conscious waking personality by our focus on it and our use of it that we can be considered to have it and thereby attain more. Conversely, if as the personality of man we do not take this light into our consciousness, it can be assumed that this is because we are not focused on the Christ Within and thereby whatever little Light we may have is lost through our focus on the carnal life. We see this same theme by the Master in the Parable of Talents or Minas (In the Words of Jesus parts 104-105) where each of the servants is given a sum “according to his several ability” (Matthew 25:15) and measured then on what it is that he was able to do with what he was given. In our discussion of this we likened these talents to the reality of ‘spiritual capital’ that we receive based on our position of the great scheme of Life and see here again in this parable that the more that we have, the more that is required. Further, the Master adds this: “For unto every one that hath shall be given , and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath” (Matthew 25:29).

Jesus uses this same saying in yet another context, that of hearing. After explaining the Parable of the Sower to His disciples, the Master says this to them: “a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given  For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath” (Mark 4:21-25). In this we should see the idea of to hear as to understand and also to believe making the thought here the same. Hearing, believing, understanding in the Light of the Soul, those things that are in the spiritual Light.

So again we come back to the coming of a New Year and a new day and a new opportunity to “Let your light so shine before men” and we should have here the idea also of our responsibility to do so and to do so to the fullness of the Light that we have. We should also know that it is in so doing that we attain to more Light and in that Light of the Soul is the Love and the Wisdom that help us to complete our journey to His Kingdom. Starting today let us all:

Let your light so shine before men

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment.

We repeat here as today’s Quote of the Day the Apostle Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians and a prayer that all can use as it is focused only on the spiritual and not on the carnal. This is also an excellent way to start the NEW YEAR2012.

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen (Ephesians 3:14-21)

We will add this to the Prayers and Meditations section shortly.
