GoodWill IS Love in Action

FIRST IS THE GREAT COMMANDMENTS: “The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:29-31).

WHAT THEN IS LOVE? In a general sense love is benevolence, good will; that disposition of heart which inclines men to think favorably of their fellow men, and to do them good. In a theological sense, it includes supreme love to God, and universal good will to men. While this IS from an older definition of Charity, which IS rendered in the King James Bible from the same Greek word agape which IS generally rendered as Love, we should amend our own definition here to include the idea that in the reality of Love a man will accord to ALL men ALL things that he would accord to himself and to say that Love IS our thoughts and attitude of the equality of ALL men regardless of their outward nature or appearance…that ALL ARE equally children of Our One God

PLUS THE EVER IMPORTANT AND HIGH IDEAL TAUGHT TO US BY THE CHRIST: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them” (Matthew 7:12).

We ended the last essay with our own observations of how the words of the Master and the amplifying and clarifying words of His apostles have the singular purpose of showing men the Way out of the doldrums of carnal existence and the Way “into the glorious liberty of the children of God”While this IS spelled out for us by the Apostle Paul, we should try to see his words here in the context of further enhancing the Master’s own words that show men that it IS by keeping His words that this liberty will come. And when we can understand that this freedom IS the result of KNOWING the Truths of Life and the Kingdom of God, we can then better understand Jesus’ words that tells us that it IS the man who will Truly follow him that can KNOW these Truths. Jesus tells us that “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 30:31) and while much of doctrine gets caught up in the Master’s dialogue with the Jews and its meaning, the deeper reality IS missed. This reality IS the True “glorious liberty” that IS achieved by the True disciple of the Lord and it IS this liberty that IS unleashed by the Truths that come in the revelations and realizations that ARE the result of keeping His words.

We should try to see here how that it IS the Truths of Life and of the Kingdom of God that ARE the realizations of the man who keeps His words and, by measure, the man who strives toward that goal. We should try to see as well how that the revelations and realizations ARE the True grace of God and that this grace comes in the Presence of God in the Life of the man in the world who lives according to Jesus words as He shows us in these words that we repeat again:

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me” (John 14:21-24).

In the combination of these ideas from Jesus we should be able to see the reality of the Truth in the Presence of God in one’s Life and how that these two ideas ARE in fact one. We should be able to see how that the very realizations that come to a man whose focus IS upon the things of God ARE the Truths that will set one free “from the bondage of corruption” (Romans 8:21) which IS Life in this world of men. While the Master’s words ARE rather parabolic and while the Apostle Judas DOES NOT understand Jesus meaning at first, the reality that He presents can be rather clear for the man who can see past the carnal implications and into the spiritual Truths that ARE released to the man who keeps His words.  The reality and the depth of Jesus words ARE inextricably tied to the reality of keeping His words and it IS in this reality that the Truth of His words IS revealed to men and realized by the personality that MUST express His Truth; it IS this expression that IS the reality of keeping His words.

That there IS a logic in these ideas IS shown to us by Paul who tells us that the Great Truths of Life and of the Kingdom of God have been closely held in the “the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations“. Paul goes on to show us that these mysteries ARE “made manifest to his saints” and while this word saint IS diluted by the doctrines of men, the greater reality remains in understanding that it IS the man who keeps His words that Truly IS the saint. And what IS this mystery but the revelation to the man who can see past his own carnal ideas and understand that the “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1: 26-27) IS the very same Presence of God that the Master promises to the man who will keep His words.

In these ideas from the Master and from the apostle we should try to understand the reciprocal action that brings a man “from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God”. It IS the reciprocal action in the Life of a man that produces the revelations and the realizations of Truth as he comes to KNOW the greater Truths and IS able to unfold the mysteries as his expression becomes ever more according to the Truth of the Master’s words. This idea of reciprocal action IS founded in the Master’s words and while most DO NOT see this reality it IS clearly painted for us in such words as we have above on the disciple and on His Presence….each shows us that the man who will keep His words IS the man who will have the realization of Truth.

This IS rather clearly depicted for us in these sayings that show us the quid pro quo; that show us that to KNOW the Truth that frees a man “from the bondage of corruption” IS the Way of the man who will keep His words and, similarly, that show us how that the Presence of God comes to the man “that hath my commandments, and keepeth them“. That this reality IS missed by most Christian doctrines that rely upon the more convenient interpretations of the words of Paul as their guide IS of no moment as the reality of His words IS clearly expressed and it IS this that gives us our idea of the singular purpose of showing men the Way out of the doldrums of carnal existence and “into the glorious liberty of the children of God” that runs through ALL of the Master’s words and those of His apostles.

And we should not forget here the final part of what we call the trifecta of our spiritual reality: being accounted worthy of the Kingdom of God. While this IS presented by Jesus as a seemingly separate idea that IS apart from discipleship and the Presence of God, the reality IS that that these ARE ALL the same when viewed from a spiritual perspective. While the relationship of these aspects of the trifecta IS rather clearly depicted for us by the Master, most DO NOT see this reality; most DO NOT see that it IS the same cause that brings about the reciprocal action that IS the trifecta of our spiritual reality. That the Master’s phrasing of the idea varies among the sayings as they are given to us by Matthew and John DOES NOT Truly matter as it IS the essence of the idea that we ARE intended to see. In this regard we should see that to “continue in my word” and to “hath my commandments, and keepeth them” has the same result and that the idea presented as the final aspect IS the same. We read again: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).

When we can clearly see that attaining the Kingdom of God, having His Presence in one’s Life and being His “disciples indeed” ARE ALL the same thing and ARE accomplished by the same action in the Life of a man, we can then see through a part of the mysteries that ARE protected by Jesus’ parabolic tone and understand the Truth of His words saying “The kingdom of God cometh not witha observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:20-21).

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment.

GOODWILL IS

LOVE IN ACTION

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:12

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: James 2:8

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Galatians 5:14

Our Quote of the Day is a stylized version of the footer that has been a part of this blog from the beginning. It is in a few words our motto and our slogan and as we have posted so many times, it is the method par excellence of bringing about a world in Peace and in Harmony. The words of the Master that accompany our motto here are the source for our understanding of GoodWill and our method of practice and the words of His apostles are their echo of the second part of the Greatest Commandment as enunciated by the Christ. Let us all strive to do our part for in so doing we are doing as the Master instructed; we are striving to enter at the strait gate into His Glorious Kingdom.

This idea of GoodWill takes on added meaning as we approach the third of the annual festivals this year. Beginning with the Festival of Easter which IS followed by the recent Festival of Wesak, the Festival of GoodWill IS the third and comes to us at the full moon of June, the Gemini full moon which IS on June 2, 2015. While there IS much symbolism in the full moon idea, the reality for us IS more simple and IS intended to show the relationships between the Christ and the Buddha and the Truth of Love and humanity. This festival IS alternately call the Christ Festival, the Festival of Humanity and World Invocation Day and it IS ALL of these qualities plus the unifying idea of GoodWill that should be seen flowing through the ideas behind it.

Let the peace of God rule in your hearts
