GoodWill IS Love in Action

FIRST IS THE GREAT COMMANDMENTS: “The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:29-31).

WHAT THEN IS LOVE? In a general sense love is benevolence, good will; that disposition of heart which inclines men to think favorably of their fellow men, and to do them good. In a theological sense, it includes supreme love to God, and universal good will to men. While this IS from an older definition of Charity, which IS rendered in the King James Bible from the same Greek word agape which IS generally rendered as Love, we should amend our own definition here to include the idea that in the reality of Love a man will accord to ALL men ALL things that he would accord to himself and to say that Love IS our thoughts and attitude of the equality of ALL men regardless of their outward nature or appearance…that ALL ARE equally children of Our One God

PLUS THE EVER IMPORTANT AND HIGH IDEAL TAUGHT TO US BY THE CHRIST: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them” (Matthew 7:12).

As we continue with our discussion on the Apostle Paul’s list of “the fruit of the Spirit“, we should try to see and to understand that while ALL of the ideas from his list ARE aspects of or subsidiary to the first listed fruit of Love, ALL ARE as well dependent upon our current word, pistis, which IS rendered as faith. We ended the last essay saying that: It IS the reality of pistis, of pisteuo and of peitho that keeps a man striving which in turn brings the revelations and the realizations of Truths that ARE NOT doubted but which ARE KNOWN according to the Master’s own words. In this there is the rather circular idea that IS the growth of the Kingdom of God in the hearts of men, a growth which IS sparked by realizations of Truth and which grows as ever more IS revealed to the consciousness of men….this IS the working of pistis and of pisteuo. In this reality we should see how that as more faith IS added; as a man comes to KNOW a greater measure of Truth, he ever strives toward increasing this measure which in turn increases his measure of the fullness of “the fruit of the Spirit“.

We should understand here how that it IS in the hearts of men that the reality of Truths must reside; it IS in their conscious awareness which feeds the mind and the emotions that changes ARE wrought as this sense of heart receives its KNOWING, its sense of faith and believing, from the Soul which, in a rather strange way, IS that very same consciousness. If we can see how such spiritual realizations ARE revealed to a man in his consciousness and that it IS the mind and the emotions which fight against these, we can then see a bit deeper into the whole idea of conscience which we have discussed several times over the course of this blog. We should try to see how that the spiritual realizations of men come in the revelations of the Soul; NOT that the Soul reveals bits of Truth to the self in the world but rather that the self in the world finds the ability to realize Truths that ARE constantly revealed in what we call the prompting of the Soul.

In this we should see the Apostle John’s words which we cited in the last post. John tells us that “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things” and in these words we have the reality of the anointing which IS the Soul and IS the Life of the man in the world. This IS the “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27) and when we can see through the confusion of words and translations and understand that while the Greek word christos, which IS always rendered as Christ, has the meaning of anointed, and that this word and the word chrisma which IS rendered as unction and as anointing ARE both rooted in the same Greek word chrio, we can then better understand the working faith and revelation. It IS the realization of KNOWING ALL things that comes in the “the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3) that a man IS able to grasp at any time and the ONLY impediment here IS the suitability of one’s own physical attributes, his own mind and emotional makeup.

And we should NOT think that God picks and chooses who among the people will be blessed with such ability to grasp the deeper Truths of Life. We should see this as one of the great mysteries of Life and understand that the subject of the equally great mystery of “Christ in you, the hope of glory” IS both the designer and the user of the physical attributes that ARE the makeup of everyman. When Paul shows us this mystery in his Epistle to the Colossians, he DOES so with specificity saying that “the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints” (Colossians 1:26). Here, while many may believe that they ARE among His saints and among His disciples in doctrinal terms, the deeper reality IS that both discipleship and saintship ARE reserved for the man who keeps His words. This IS the man who has some measure of His Presence and who KNOWS some measure of the Truth that encompasses the mysteries; the man who has experienced the growth of the Kingdom of God in his heart. This IS the reality that IS built into Jesus’ words that we call our trifecta:

  • “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:31-32).
  • “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).
  • “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me” (John 14:21-24).

It IS the True man, the Soul, who KNOWS ALL things as John shows us in his epistle but it IS ONLY as a man can grasp these ideas in his consciousness and process them in his mind that he can KNOW them and in this we should see Paul’s words on Transformation as he tells us to “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). It IS by the revelations of Truth that the pistis and the pisteuo come into the Life of a man as that KNOWING which renews the mind and takes it off of those things of this world which feed the consciousness, the heart, until the greater realizations come. It IS in this idea that we should see the rest of John’s words that tell us “the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him” (1 John 2:27).

It IS in understanding the relationship between the Soul and his form that we can come to understand these ideas of anointing and of the Christ Within and when we can see that it IS this anointing that “teacheth you of all things, and is truth“, we can then also see how that the flow of pistis, of KNOWING, comes into the heart of a man. We must of course see this reality in spiritual terms and NOT in carnal revelations but, at the same, time we must try to understand that it IS the Soul, the Inner and True man, that IS also the source of so much of the realizations that have constructed the social and the scientific platforms upon which the world lives. In this we should see that the man who brings such social and scientific ideas to the world IS funneling some measure of the Truths of Life based upon his own ability, the suitability of his own physical attributes which ARE designed and built by the Spirit of the man, the Spirit that IS ever One with God.

Here we could go into a long dissertation on the ideas of rebirth and karma but we should stress here that believing and understanding these things IS yet another mystery that IS NOT necessary to see in relationship to this single Lifetime where the objective IS to develop the pistis and the pisteuo which allows the flow of Truth and which in turn enables the Love that IS God and IS the Soul to be expressed as “the fruit of the Spirit” which we read of again in Paul’s words saying:

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts” (Galatians  5:17-24).

In those most used words from the Apostle Paul on faith saying that “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17) there IS much doctrinal fodder and while we DO NOT mean this idea in a derogatory way, our point should be clear. It IS sayings like this that detract from the Truth when they ARE used out of context as ARE these and more from this chapter of the apostle’s Epistle to the Romans. We should try to see here how that the realizations of Truth, the KNOWING that IS faith, come to a man in hearing the prompting of his own Soul and while this IS the True spiritual source of pistis, this idea works as well in worldly terms. If we understand the “the word of God” as the content of Jesus’ words and the clarifying and amplifying words of His apostles, we should be able to discern the deeper meanings that ARE the apostle’s intent.

To understand this however one must see the whole idea of akoe which IS rendered as hearing and see that there IS NO requirement that this comes through the ear. In hearing, as akoe IS used here, IS the perception of what IS heard from any source including ones own inner sense. It is this idea that we take from Jesus’ repeating of the prophet’s words saying “In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive” (Matthew 13:14); we should understand that this IS the negative to the positive thought of understanding that which IS heard. It IS in the understanding that we find pistis as that KNOWING and it IS in perception that we find the path to understanding. Jesus subject here IS parables and the idea that for those who DO NOT KNOW some measure of the Truth, such words remain as the apparent outer story without ever awakening a sense of the True intent of the words.

It IS the man who has some measure of Truth, the man who strives to focus upon the things of God, that can see behind the story and the carnal idea of the words and it IS this man who Truly hears. This IS NOT however the doctrinal view where so many believe that the words ARE such literal points as doctrines may teach and it IS perhaps to this sense of hearing that the Apostle James shows us that we must “be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22). Through these words we should see the deeper ideas given by Paul; that the True nature and meaning of “hearing by the word of God” IS to keep His words. It IS ONLY in DOING that men achieve and it IS ONLY in DOING that the Kingdom of God can grow in the heart of the man who strives to focus upon the things of God.

We should try to see here then that pistis, that KNOWING which IS faith, comes in DOING and NOT merely hearing from any source and, if we can relate this idea to the words on the anointing from John above, we can get a clearer picture of faith as a  “fruit of the Spirit“. In the reality of Jesus’ words that “ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” we have a picture of the True source of faith, of pistis and pisteuo, which IS that one keep His words and while the Master shows us here the end point, we should understand that it IS by measure, by measure of one’s striving, that the end point IS reached. We should understand here as well that in one’s KNOWING, in Truly KNOWING, some measure of the Truth that this DOES become the expression of the man; this IS the natural way of anyone who Truly sees and glimpses the mysteries of Life…that he will perforce make these the expression of his Life.

This expression IS “the fruit of the Spirit” and this expression IS based in the pistis and the pisteuo that ARE that fruit, and we should ever remember that it IS by measure that we “bring forth fruit“, it IS by the measure of one’s focus and of striving to keep His words that we find the reality of Jesus’s words saying that it IS the man that IS the “good ground” that will “bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred” (Mark 4:20). Here we return to that rather circular idea that IS the growth of the Kingdom of God in the hearts of men, a growth which IS sparked by realizations of Truth and which grows as ever more IS revealed to the consciousness of men, that IS the working of pistis and of pisteuo.

The Master tells us that this IS an unstoppable phenomenon in the Life of a man albeit He tells us this in parabolic tones that ARE NOT understood in the doctrines of men. Jesus tells us that “The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof” (Matthew 13:31). The subject here IS NOT the mustard seed per se but the idea of the seed as we find in the Parable of the Sower where “The seed is the word of God” (Luke 8:11). It IS the word of God, the same word which Paul shows us in his message on faith, which produces that KNOWING and which grows into the fullness of one’s Life as symbolized by the idea that it “becometh a tree“. This IS the growth of the Kingdom Within from the word of God sown in the heart. We close today with a similar parable which we will begin with in the next essay; the Master tells us that “The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened” (Matthew 13:33)

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment.

We repeat here a Quote of the Day that we spent much time with over the course of our essays. In this affirmation we find the Truth of discipleship as we have been ever been expressing and here we can relate our themes of the last few days; “take no thought” for the things of the world and that we approach the Kingdom and discipleship in the nature of the little child, in humbleness, meekness, unashamed in any way and unassuming. The message that this imparts for us today IS that it IS the Soul that is at work in the world of men as it expresses to some degree the purpose, power and the will through Life in this world. These words are from a meditation offered to his students by our Tibetan brother and in which we find greater understanding of the message of the Master. This IS Truly the way of the disciple.

My Soul has purpose, power and will; these three are needed on the Way of Liberation.

My Soul must foster love among the sons of men; this is its major purpose.

I, therefore, will to love and tread the Way of Love. All that hinders and obstructs the showing of the Light must disappear before the purposes of the Soul.

My will is one with the great Will of God;. that Holy Will requires that all men serve. And unto the purposes of the Plan I lend my little will.

Let the peace of God rule in your hearts
