And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do itIf ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live , ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:13-26).

Our point in the last post was to give the perspective that the common everyday working out of most ALL religions in the world IS NOT focused upon the same intent that the bearers of the several revelations intended. This being said and understanding that those who guide the race of men are aware of the reality of illusion and glamour, vanity as the Apostle Paul tells us, and its effect upon the carnal nature through the minds and emotions of the man in form, we should be able to glimpse the Truth in the words that Paul gives us saying that “For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,  Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God” (Romans 8:20-21). In this we should see our journey as men in form who are striving (albeit sometimes without realizing it) toward the ability to express the Inner Man, the True Man as the Soul, through the Life in form. This that can take many, many incarnations through the evolving state of the available forms and their own ability to better express the also evolving realms of feeling and of thought. From here we can see that the Soul that desires incarnation moves steadily toward the final redemption of his form working through more evolved forms and personality capacity, chasing as it were a moving target as while the Soul is adjusting to gain an ability to command form, the forms are ever changing and evolving  in their ability to command the world. With this evolution of form and personality capacity however, the Soul also has greater potential for right communication with the form and the personality that are less and less overwhelmed with the illusion and the glamour and the superstition based approach to Life in the world. This communication is the call of the Soul and the answer of the man in form who is closer to the Light and sees better the reality of the teachings of the Master on Love and GoodWill and this seeing better transcends religion as we understand it and has its effect on ALL men around the world whether they KNOW of the Master and His specific teachings or not.

While this may all sound rather fanciful, it is no more so than the normal pronouncements of religious doctrines which are steeped in the superstitions and the dogmas of old. We should add here that this is not intended to be the final word on any of these things as we have but a glimpse of a steadily unfolding reality which is both unfolding as a reality itself and unfolding in our ability as men in form to grasp and comprehend it. Here we can see the working out of the idea above regarding the evolution of form and personality capacity as we could not comprehend these things on this non-superstition or devotional level using the equipment of the man in form a thousand years ago. We should understand here that the idea of superstition as it is used here is intended to convey a belief in things that are not True but which one may think are True based on the acceptance of doctrine or some teaching believed to be of authority; this of course leaves most ALL things that are accepted on faith as subject to our definition of superstition. In this we should try to see that the Master never asks us to rely on faith per se but rather tells us that we must have faith and we understand His meaning on this faith as a KNOWING. Webster’s definition of superstition from the 1913 edition tells us:

  • 1.An excessive reverence for, or fear of, that which is unknown or mysterious. 2.An ignorant or irrational worship of the Supreme Deity; excessive exactness or rigor in religious opinions or practice; extreme and unnecessary scruples in the observance of religious rites not commanded, or of points of minor importance; also, a rite or practice proceeding from excess of sculptures in religion. 3.The worship of a false god or gods; false religion; religious veneration for objects. 4.Belief in the direct agency of superior powers in certain extraordinary or singular events, or in magic, omens, prognostics, or the like. 5. Excessive nicety; scrupulous exactness.
  • Syn. — Fanaticism. — Superstition, Fanaticism. Superstition springs from religious feeling misdirected or unenlightened. Fanaticism arises from this same feeling in a state of high-wrought and self-confident excitement. The former leads in some cases to excessive rigor in religious opinions or practice; in others, to unfounded belief in extraordinary events or in charms, omens, and prognostics, hence producing weak fears, or excessive scrupulosity as to outward observances. The latter gives rise to an utter disregard of reason under the false assumption of enjoying a guidance directly inspired. Fanaticism has a secondary sense as applied to politics, etc., which corresponds to the primary.

Can we see in this our ideas on this word and can we see the practical, albeit un-admitted, use of superstition in religious practice and likely in ALL religions. Our point here again is to show that  in the evolution of the form and the psyche or personality of men, there is a steady unfoldment and in this unfoldment is a natural reduction in the propensity to follow the superstitions of doctrines and dogmas as these no longer appeal to the man in form who IS looking for more and better realities for himself. Hence our position and our purpose in producing this blog. While this evolutionary move is the real factor in the movement of the race of men along the lines of spiritual achievement, it is also a real factor in the movement along the lines of carnal knowledge and this is the result of the illusion and the glamour of the world in which we live. So we have a sort of box that we live in as men in the world over time; our forms improve to allow for better use of the mental faculty which in turn helps us to understand somewhat the emotional faculty and allows us to break away from the superstitions that are grounded in emotion and feeling. While this should allow for a more rapid response to the reality of God and of our own Souls as they call to the man in form to listen to the ultimate reality, it does at the same time enhance our attachment to the world of things and of pleasures, the things that feed the vanity of the race causing many to yet further succumb to the illusion and the glamour of the world. Hence the Master’s timeless message regarding our way out of this box and into the fullness of the realization of the Kingdom as disciples of the Lord; this timeless message is that we “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in , and shall not be able” (Luke 13:24) and this message includes for us His caution of the difficulty involved in our journey.

There is much doctrine in the world and it comes at us from many sides and in many forms; it has encroached upon most ALL facets of Life and reveals to us individually the thoughts of others on a matter. We are of course free to believe what we want to believe though is does seem at times that we are likely to follow in what we KNOW from parents and teachers and others that we ourselves see as figures of authority concerning the doctrines that they espouse. From this perspective what we offer here is also doctrine although we like to think of it as Truth and this same thinking is likely in the thoughts of most all who convey doctrines to others in religion and politics and most every social endeavor. The Master tells us that we must “Take heed therefore how ye hear” and He gives this to us in a way that is difficult to understand saying in its entirety that “Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have” (Luke 8:18). We have discussed this saying and the similar one in the Gospel of Mark several times and from several different perspectives but in most all cases we have qualified the idea of the Greek word akouo which is translated as hear so that its meaning to us includes understanding, perceiving, considering and comprehending which defining terms we can put together under the single word of believing from the perspective of the man in form. This should not be confused with the idea of believing in or believing on as these stream forth from the Soul and can be considered the effect and the cause of discipleship but rather this should be seen as what a man believes based upon the evidence presented to him along with his preconceived ideas as held against the call of the Soul of the still small voice of the Christ Within. A man will hear one or the other and this is the caution of the Master that we  “Take heed“. Can we see in the Master’s words the idea that if a man in the world believes that which is convenient and beneficial to the carnal Life that he will be led down that rosy path of whatever doctrine and while he may think that he is gaining, he is actually losing as he is drawn further and further from the Truth.

So in this taking heed, this caution as to what we may choose to believe as men in form, we should see the reality that we are in so many ways on our own. Within the clamor of competing doctrines we must choose; for some the choice is easy as it is the path of least resistance or it is the continuation in those things that they KNOW best, for others there is the listening and the considering and the eventual believing whatsoever suits him in his time and place. No matter how one comes to believe a thing, it is ever his choice and it is here that the Master tells us to “Take heed” for there is none that can do it for us. From the perspective of the aspirant and the disciple the Apostle John gives us some help in understanding our own role, an understanding that is difficult to see for the man focused upon the world; speaking of the activity of the Christ Within he says: “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him” (1 John 2:27).

To close today we repeat some of the words of our Tibetan brother who says this about how one should approach his books; we borrow his ideas in relation to the way that one should approach our writings here as well. As we presented this in a previous post we present it here again:

There is much food for thought here and we do not present any of this authoritatively but rather present it as a possible painted picture of the realities of Life as an incarnating Soul. In closing today we borrow some words from the Tibetan who has written extensively with Alice A. Bailey on ALL things spiritual, arcane and esoteric. He tells his readers: The books that I have written are sent out with no claim for their acceptance. They may, or may not, be correct, true and useful. It is for you to ascertain their truth by right practice and by the exercise of the intuition. Neither I nor A.A.B. is the least interested in having them acclaimed as inspired writings, or in having anyone speak of them (with bated breath) as being the work of one of the Masters. If they present truth in such a way that it follows sequentially upon that already offered in the world teachings, if the information given raises the aspiration and the will-to-serve from the plane of the emotions to that of the mind (the plane whereon the Masters can be found) then they will have served their purpose. If the teaching conveyed calls forth a response from the illumined mind of the worker in the world, and brings a flashing forth of his intuition, then let that teaching be accepted. But not otherwise. If the statements meet with eventual corroboration, or are deemed true under the test of the Law of Correspondences, then that is well and good. But should this not be so, let not the student accept what is said. (EXTRACT FROM A STATEMENT BY THE TIBETAN)

It is in this same way that we offer here our ideas and thoughts and it is in this same way that they should be accepted or not.

We have been leaving many topics hanging as we change subjects day by day but we will come back to the sayings above from John that we have left at the top of our essays, the completion of our thoughts on desire and, in the next post, the completion of our list of titles and words that we began a few posts back. Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment.:

Today we post a World Prayer that is also included in the Prayers and Meditation section with some explanation of its source and its use. We are entering a time of the year which we can consider more sacred by way of the newness of Spring which should reflect in our newness of Life. This is the Festival of Easter and a time of rejoicing; not only for the Resurrection of the Lord from the Christian perspective but also for the teaching that is incorporated in the Master’s sacrifice 2000 years ago and in His continued sacrifice. We should remember His parting words: “I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20)

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men–
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.
